The Village at HighPointe |
A surprising discovery in the heart of a charming north side neighborhood, the townhomes at HighPointe provide a wonderful blend of luxurious amenities and easy-care features, thanks to the thoughtful design, quality construction and an attention to detail.
The HighPointe community was designed to appeal to anyone wanting luxurious amenities combined with a little to- no maintenance lifestyle, all on one easy-care level. With the full basements, the homes are perfect for those who want a little more room for the kids, have family coming home to visit or would like real space for their hobbies. At a generous 1,876 square feet on each level, there’s room for everyone.
The exterior of the homes is a rich taupe and champagne steel siding with the best of energy-efficient windows throughout the home. The recessed front door is a lovely stained glass and wood. Stepping into the wood-floored, high-ceiling foyer allows you a great view of the formal living room on the left and the dining room on the right.
Central to the living area is a gas fireplace, with a rock surround topped by a carved wood mantle. An abstract outdoor scene done in acrylic, highlights the expanse above the fireplace and seems a part of the outdoor scene, viewed through the windows set on each side. Both the windows overlooking the front yard and to the side have a geometric inset window above, emphasizing the unusual height of the room and interesting ceiling architecture.
As an extra security feature, a small unobtrusive sensor perches on the wall of the living room. With so much glass in the front of the home, builders Mike and Peggy Bullinger wanted to supplement the home’s state-of-the-art security system with an added feature: the sensor can detect the
sound of glass breaking.
The dining area has light cherry-finish flooring that runs through the kitchen and breakfast nook. Natural light comes through the windows at the front, which have the wood blinds done in cream tones. The dining room chandelier complements the foyer piece with similar taupe-shaded iron and alabaster lights. “We tried to add all the things we wanted in our house,” Peggy says with a laugh. “For example, we wanted a formal dining room in our house, so we made sure each of these homes had the space.”
A handy island separates the dining area from the kitchen, giving added seating and serving space. Cherry woods are used throughout the home, including the kitchen cabinetry. Marble-look countertops, a Kohler stainless steel sink and chrome fixtures, and upscale bisque appliances add to the functional beauty of this important room. Under-cabinet lights, pullout shelves and easy-care surfaces complete the look. Above the cabinets that back up to the hallway is another geometric design detail: an open soffit, which not only provides a more spacious atmosphere to the kitchen, but also provides the area and outlets needed to display holiday decorations or other special mementos. |

Leading down the hallway from the living room and dining area, there’s a generous guest bedroom on the left. Across from the master bedroom is the breakfast nook, which is an open, flexible space, just right for a table or even a small office setup. With the Internet hookup already installed, it’s a great place to check your e-mail or relax over the morning paper.
The master bedroom is a quiet refuge. The master bath has a sliding pocket door to maximize space. Adding to the fun is a Jacuzzi tub—a restful idea at the end of a busy day. A large walk-in closet with many built-ins completes the suite. Done in soothing cream and sand tones, the accents here are found in the deep purple bed linens and decorative pieces. Just past the bedrooms are the doors to the guest bathroom, outside patio and laundry room as well as access to both the downstairs level and the garage.
The garage is designed with some handy extras: it’s an oversized double garage, so there’s truly space for two cars plus storage along the sides; it’s heated; and the center floor drain means you can wash your car inside.
Going downstairs to the lower level is a delight, with extra-wide carpeted stairs and foot lights along the way. “We didn’t want a ‘basement’ feel,” notes Mike. “We didn’tb want to have the impression you were going down to a dark cellar.” Instead, the escape windows in the family area and two of the large downstairs bedrooms provide lots of natural light. The third “bedroom” could easily be used as storage, craft or office space, while the other two bedrooms have generous closets and wide windows for maximum light.
One of the many details considered in the townhomes was the noise factor. “The 12-inch thick walls are insulated concrete forms,” says Mike, “so they’re very quiet. You’ll never hear a neighbor’s television or snooze alarm. We added the extra insulation to help the energy efficiency and to ensure the quiet.”
